Ways to increase milling productivity

  Milling plays an important role in machining. With the rapid development of the machinery industry, in order to further improve milling efficiency and shorten the basic machining time and auxiliary time of the workpiece, there is a further requirement for milling fixtures and tools. Combining years of experience in machining, the author focuses on how to improve milling efficiency from several aspects such as milling fixtures, tools and improvements in milling methods.
  First, milling fixture
  The workpiece is positioned by the clamp and fastened to the milling machine table. To improve the milling efficiency, the clamping assistance time must be shortened. Therefore, in mass production, high-efficiency fixtures should be used as much as possible.
  Eccentric clamp
  An eccentric clamp that is tightened with an eccentric wheel and a platen bolt. The eccentric is coupled with a pin and a pressure plate. When the handle is lowered, the pin is lifted up and the front section of the platen is pressed down against the workpiece. For example, the eccentric vise is a machine vise that uses eccentric tightening. The jaws can be designed according to the shape and requirements of the workpiece. The stroke must be adjusted in advance according to the size of the workpiece before use.
  The eccentric clamp clamps quickly, saves auxiliary time and improves efficiency, but the clamping stroke is small, and when the cutting force is large, the work is not reliable, and it is suitable for processing small parts.
  2. Multi-position fixture
  By clamping several workpieces on one fixture and continuously processing, the auxiliary time and basic time can be shortened. Under the premise of ensuring the quality, the workpiece should be clamped as much as possible.

The advantage of this type of clamp is that it is very convenient to position and clamp. The disadvantage is that the clamping force is not large and it is only suitable for machining smaller parts.

Second, milling tools

To improve milling efficiency, it is necessary to shorten the basic processing time of the workpiece, that is, to remove excess material in a short time. We know that the multi-tooth milling cutter has high processing efficiency, so increasing the area of contact between the milling cutter and the workpiece can effectively remove the material and improve efficiency.
  1. Using a combination milling cutter
  The combination milling cutter combines several milling cutters and installs them into a certain size, and simultaneously processes several surfaces of the workpiece, so that the steps are combined into a composite step, so that the processing efficiency is doubled. At the same time, since the machining size is determined in advance by the size and installation size of the milling cutter, auxiliary time such as clamping, trial cutting and measurement can be reduced, and the quality of the product can be ensured.
  Milling features: Milling accuracy depends on the accuracy of the combined milling cutter, the diameter and width of the milling cutter. The shape and size of the milling cutter must be selected and measured before installation.
  2. Indexable face milling cutter
  Plane is the main workpiece shape for milling machine. For face milling, the indexable face milling cutter is the first choice. Because the indexable face milling cutter has more effective teeth on the end face, it has high machining efficiency and is suitable for milling planes with a depth of 10mm or less. The larger the diameter of the milling cutter, the more the number of teeth, the more material is removed in one revolution of the tool, and the milling efficiency should be higher.
  1) Selection of the diameter D and the number of teeth Z of the indexable face milling cutter: a) The diameter D of the indexable face milling cutter (referring to the diameter of the turning circle of the cutting edge) is usually estimated according to the surface width of the milling workpiece, that is, the side cutting amount ae. The face milling cutter diameter, ie D = (1.1 ~ 1.6) ae. At the same time, it should also be considered that the power required by the tool should be within the rated power range of the machine, so it can also be estimated according to the diameter d of the machine tool spindle. The tool diameter should satisfy D.
